Sheepshead Bay is a secluded neighborhood in southern Brooklyn known both for its distinctive beach town vibe as well as its strong sense of community.
It has a rich history that includes a race track and what was once the country’s largest restaurant, and its namesake is a black-striped fish with sheep-like teeth. With a record of highly rated public schools and competitive home prices, it is one of the borough’s best kept secrets.
The first real development of Sheepshead Bay occurred in the 19th Century. Along with Manhattan Beach and Brighton Beach, Sheepshead Bay became a summertime destination for city dwellers looking for ocean access and fresh sea air. There were hotels, recreational activities, and even a horse racing track. As public transportation expanded into the outer boroughs, the area grew into a residential enclave for Italian- and Irish-Americans. A vibrant fishing community developed, and summer bungalows were a common sight on street corners near the ocean. After a downturn in the late 20th Century and a renaissance in the early- and mid-2000s, the neighborhood is undergoing a new wave of development. At the same time it has become more ethnically diverse, with Russian, Jewish, Turkish, Asian, Indian, and Middle Eastern communities planting roots there.
The main corridors for restaurants, cafes, bars, fitness facilities and shops are Avenue U and Nostrand, Ocean, Coney Island Avenues, and Emmons Avenues. Along Emmons Avenue in particular, one can find a neighborhood institution like Roll N’ Roaster, a roast beef sandwich joint that’s been around for 48 years, or an upscale eatery like Baku Palace, which features an eclectic menu inspired by Russian and French cuisine. Chartering a fishing trip is still a popular activity, and there are several companies that handle parties of all sizes. The B and Q subway lines serve as the neighborhood’s main modes of public transportation, and nearby attractions include Marine Park and the New York Aquarium.

The French word 'bricolage' describes a person able to transform everyday objects and materials into innovative inventions. We recognize design as a research process: learning about each client, their identity, history and context. We endeavor to ‘custom-tailor’ each project to our client by identifying and meticulously unfolding each layer of the project’s challenges and aspirations. The end result not only reflects the essence of our client, but also refines and enhances their unique stories with a sophisticated clarity. The studio operates as a workshop of designers from all different disciplines, thus able to stretch its scope from architecture and interiors to landscape, product, event, exhibition, and graphic design. The studio also fosters strategic partnerships with other architectural firms with different expertise in order to encompass a broad range and scale of projects. This enables the studio to stay flexible to meet the changing demands of today's construction industry.
